Dota 2 News: Six Teams Are Out of ESL One Katowice 2018

ESL One Katowice is running with full force and we have already seen some big names not making their way to the playoffs.

The event started with four best-of-one matchups. Now, that’s a risky take for even the best of teams. In Group A, Team Liquid came up against Effect, VG faced OG, Mineski defeated Complexity, and Virtus.pro edged out Optic Gaming.

Into the lower bracket, it was a best-of-three elimination encounter, with OG defeated Effect with a 2-0 scoreline. Then it was Optic Gaming against Complexity, and the memories of old rivalry between team captains Peter “ppd” Dager and Kyle “melonzz” Freedman came to light. Fortunately for ppd, his team edged past Complexity, with a 2-1 score.

However, moving forward, the team came up against the TI7 winners Team Liquid who were defeated by VG in the upper bracket. Despite countless efforts from Optic Gaming, they were not able to take out the Aegis carriers and lost 2-0. Hence, their run at Katowice 2018 came to an end.

This was the case for Mineski who were defeated by VP in the upper bracket and met OG as their kryptonite in the lower bracket and were defeated by a 2-1 scoreline.

In Group B Team Secret took out Infamous while LGD 1-0ed EG. Fnatic got the better of Na`Vi, and surprisingly the last match of the series saw Kinguin take out TI7 runner-ups Newbee.

From the lower bracket, EG had to take on Infamous while Newbee faced Na`Vi. EG were the obvious winners in case of the first matchup. However, Newbee vs. Na`Vi was an important match. Na`Vi had recently revamped their roster by bringing in Lil from VP, but still, they lost against Newbee. Thus, Na`Vi had to pack their bags and return home. Meanwhile, EG and Newbee have moved on to face Kinguin and LGD.

The remaining matches of the group stage are set to take place today with the playoffs starting from tomorrow. If you haven’t taken out time to follow the event, as yet then now would be the time to do so.
