Red Bull Guardians 2018: New Event, New Rules

A new Dota 2 event is around the corner and unlike the past ones, this event has got a plot twist to make things interesting.

Red Bull hosted Dota 2 events have a history of being different and fun. The newly announced event follows the same footsteps as announced by the official Red Bull Twitter account.

The twist at this event would be the introduction of substitution heroes that teams can using during their match. As per the official statement:

“Four leading Dota teams will be competing in a competition that will change the way pro players have to think about their strategy. While the compelling Dota gameplay will remain the same, there is an additional drafting phase in which teams can choose three heroes to be substitutes. Players can swap between each hero during the game, and the incoming hero will retain the same items and experience as the outgoing character. There is also a three-minute individual cooldown, attached to each player, for use of this ability.”

A plethora of different strategies and game plans can be made with this mode as team captains would have more room to execute strategies and counter the enemy team. It is also important to note that the switchable heroes would be using the same items as the previous ones and thus picking an all purpose hero would become far more beneficial.

So far both paiN Gaming and Mineski have confirmed their participation in the event with two more teams to be revealed soon.

As of now, Mineski and Pain Gaming are the teams confirmed for the event with two more set to be announced. The event will take place at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere in London. Stay tuned for more news regarding the event and the announcement of the remaining teams for the Red Bull Guardians 2018.
