PUBG Drops Lawsuit Against Rivals Fortnite

Over the few weeks, the air between the two battle royale giants has been quite thick due to the numerous claims of copyright infringement. This lead to the entire BR community to be split down the middle, one half in favor of PUBG, while the other backing up Fortnite with claims stating that Fortnite is a game of its own. The battle waged on but it seems the war has been lost as PUBG Corp has just withdrawn its lawsuit against Epic Games.

PUBG vs Fortnite: The Real Battle Royale

Almost a month back, PUBG Corp filed a lawsuit against Epic Games on the grounds of Fortnite copying ideas from PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. However, this is not something new or unexpected as the two developers have been in a dispute ever since the release of Epic Game’s battle royale title, Fortnite. This was mainly due to the fact that PUBG runs on the Unreal Engine which is owned by Epic Games. And since PUBG Corp pays Epic Games royalties for using this engine, they took this a stab in the back.

That being said, this lawsuit claimed some pretty serious allegations which if taken to court, would have been the biggest copyright case of the year. However, right now, out of the blue, PUBG Corp has taken back its case, freeing Epic Games of the lawsuit. As a result, for the time being, the case has been closed.

Now, no one really knows what made PUBG Corp take this decision as nothing has been made public till now. Maybe a behind-the-doors agreement has been made. Maybe, a settlement even. Who knows? But from what we have been hearing, we will not have to wait long as the entire community would be desperately waiting for the reason behind this sudden move.

So, till that happens, stay tuned. We are going to be updating you with whatever goes down as soon as it does. But while we wait, give us your say on the matter? What do you think happened which lead PUBG Corp to take back its lawsuit?
