Overwatch PTR Update Brings A Reaper Buff and Huge Nerfs
The way Overwatch is being played might change forever. The recent PTR update in Overwatch has made many thinking how the Meta will change for the game. This game changing update revolves around nerfing all armor throughout all heroes in the game. While recent updates targeted specific heroes to balance their strength, this time around it Blizzard has decided to tartget the root and nerf Armor as a whole.
With the PTR update, damage reduction has been reduced from 5 to 3 which is a 40% decrease of defense. This will greatly affect heroes such as Reinhardt, Brigitte, Orisa and D.Va who heavily rely on their armor to being effective in a game. Plus a lot of strategies revolve with these heroes on the front line.
With the armor reduction they won’t be able to do what they could in the past and thus other heroes will also face a substantial change in gameplay as well. And not just normal gameplay, a lot of it would directly affect competitive play if this thing goes live in official servers.
The armor nerf isn’t the only thing on the table with this PTR update. Brigitte’s rally now as a 30 second duration while D.Va’s defense matrix cooldown has been increased to 2 seconds. The only hero of receive a notable buff has been Reaper whose Reaping life steal has been increased by 20%.
Considering Reaper to be the kryptonite to tanks, this change would further hit performances of tank heroes in a game with Reaper on the other side.
While these changes are only live on PTR, if things as expected from Blizzard, we might see them being pushed to live servers soon enough. On the other hand, it would also give valuable information to Blizzard if things are not working in accordance so that more precise decision are made on live servers.
As of now, it seems the armor nerf might be too much to ask for. Tell us what you think of the PTR update and if the armor nerf is a move in the right direction for Overwatch.
