Overwatch League Playoffs – Semifinals Teams Decided

The Overwatch League further moves on with only four teams remaining in the playoffs. The opponents for the upper seed teams Los Angeles Valiant and New York Excelsior have been decided after a tough showdown in the quarter finals.

When we covered the quarterfinals stage, we mentioned the highly anticipated matches between Philadelphia Fusion vs Boston Uprising and London Spitfire vs Los Angeles Gladiators.

The match between the four teams has been finalized and the winners have been decided. After a time span of 4 days, and a nailbiting best-of-three series, in both matches, London Spitfire and Philadelphia Fusion got the upper hand over their respective opponents.

Neither matches can be called one sided as both took it to the final decider match after which the winner was decided. Star players from each side showed why they are called the very best and why their team made it to the top six.

The match between Philadelphia fusion and Boston Uprising saw the former get an upper hand in the first match before Boston came back strong to claim the second match of the series.

When it was down to just one game, Philidelphia Fusion brought some change to their pace and strategy to catch Boston Uprising offguard. Although Boston won the first game of the final match, Philadelphia’s aggression on Lijiang Tower was just too much to be controlled. Eichenwalde and Hanamura were up next and that to were taken home by PHI to win the series and book a spot in the Semifinals.

Meanwhile in the second quarterfinal match, London Spitfire lost the first game to Los Angeles Gladiators. For many this win made them think that GLA would win the series. However, the remaining games were to be played three days later. This gave London Spitfire enough time to get back on tracks and on July 15th, London Spitfire took two straight games to win the match and win the series for the semi finals spot.

London Spitfire will now face Los Angeles Valiant while Philadelphia Fusion will face New York Excelsior in the Semifinals. No matter the results, even the loser from the semifinals have guaranteed $100,000 prize money while the winners move on to fight for the title and $1 Million prize money.
