LoL Worlds 2018 Semi-Finals: iG vs G2 Esports

With the quarter finals now behind us, LoL Worlds 2018 enters the semi-finals stage where today. Four teams remain as Cloud9, Fnatic, G2 and iG make it after defeating their respective opponents in the quarterfinals. In the semi-finals iG faced off against G2 Esports a match that many expected the latter to win with ease. The result however was completely different as iG took out G2 Esports in a convincing 3-0 victory despite G2 being the better team on paper.

Invictus Gaming Vs. G2 Esports

Invictus Gaming came into the semi-finals after a narrow 3-2 victory over KT Rolster in the quarter finals. G2 on the other hand came out with a similar scoreline against RNG. The match between both iG and G2 seemed to be a nail biter. The results however, said a completely different story.

Game 1

The first game of the series for iG was centered around an Akali draft. G2 on the other hand went for an unorthodox draft which looked like a pocket strat from the European side. iG however, got the better opening in the game and never gave a chance for G2 to come online. Despite a few desperate attempts, G2 never really came back into the game and tapped out in under 30 minutes.

Game 2

It seemed like a dejavu as iG once again repeated their domination from Game 1. G2 Esports despite a very all rounded lineup were not able to take the ball in their favor. IG did all the necessary things to gain control of the map and an early gold lead. Networth started to accumulate in favor of iG and it was pretty obvious who was going to take the game. IG once again spearheaded their way towards the enemy base and claimed victory in just 26 minutes.

Game 3

With only once game away from the final spot, iG was feeling it already. G2 however, was feeling a lot demotivated. With their backs against the wall, G2 once again tried to catch iG off-guard with a different draft strategy.
Despite having a good laning stage, G2 was not able to turn it into a match winning momentum. The mid game is where iG turned the tables over G2 and quickly claimed domination over them. Then it was just no stopping iG and with a 13k gold lead, iG took the game with the final score 22-12.

Final Words

With this, iG has now moved on to the grand finals where they will face the winner between Cloud9 and Fnatic. The second semi-finals is set to start tomorrow and it’s something you wouldn’t want to miss. This one is going to be a nail biter as well since both teams are looking really strong. In any case, there is going to be only one winner and that makes it even more interesting to watch.

Stay tuned as we bring to you every highlight from the matches at LoL Worlds 2018.
