How to Fix Doom 4 High Ping
Bethesda Softworks, the developers of Doom 4, recently released the game’s beta version. Doom 4 is the latest installation of the Doom series. The game takes a paradigm shift from previous incarnations of the popular first-person shooter as it taps into the world of online multiplayer gaming. However, one problem that the game invites by entering the online multiplayer genre is high ping in Doom 4.
If you have already tried the beta version of Doom 4, high ping is something that you certainly may have come across. When you face high ping in Doom 4, you may face a horde of related problems such as:
Your character will register a delayed response to keyboard or mouse commands. This stutter will get worse during heavy combat or when you enter a new area in a map.
When running ahead in full speed, your character will suddenly warp back to where it was a few seconds ago.
The most feared of all lags, freezing practically makes you a sitting duck in the middle of a raging war.
This happens when there is a spike in ping. You will know there is a ping spike in Doom 4 when the enemies are moving at lightning-fast speed and you are unable to aim your crosshair at them.
When you have high ping in Doom 4, these four problems will be consistent and annoying as they can ruin your gaming experience. Unfortunately, you cannot completely eliminate ping from online multiplayer gaming. This is because ping is the result of delay in data transmission.
In fact, delays in data transmission are measured by Ping, the time (in milliseconds) it takes your packet data to travel from your machine to the server and back again. The higher the ping, the more time it takes your packet data to travel to the server. The result of all this is high ping in Doom 4.
How to Reduce High Ping
It is impossible to completely eliminate ping in an online multiplayer game since packet data needs atleast some time to travel to the server and back. However, you can take the necessary steps to significantly reduce it. Here are some useful tips to reduce high ping in Doom 4:
Upgrade Your Internet Connection
Online multiplayer games require constant transfer of big volumes of packet data. Hence, an internet connection with a bandwidth of less than 1Mbps is not really useful for online gaming. Upgrade to a package with a bandwidth of atleast 4Mbps so that it facilitates faster transfer of packet data with minimum packet loss or ping spikes. This means no more Doom 4 high ping.
Also, make sure that you are using a wired connection instead of a wireless one. A wireless connection is less stable and it is prone to connectivity issues. A wired connection, on the other hand, is more stable and will bother you less frequently with connectivity issues and annoying disconnections. A wired connection also offers faster transfer of packet data which means that you will no longer face high ping in Doom 4.
Disable Auto-update/download Features of Background Applications
Even with a high-speed internet connection, you may face lag if your internet is being used by background applications. So, make sure you stop background downloads such as torrents or video streaming such as on Netflix. You must also disable the auto-update feature of security applications like antivirus, anti-spyware and firewall. This is because these applications are set by default to auto-update their virus definitions or database and this may affect your packet data transfer speed.
Go for an Optimized Server
Switching to an optimized server is another effective way to reduce ping. Optimized servers are practically designed to facilitate faster and efficient transfer of gaming data since they use optimized server-routing techniques. This allows them to bypass unwanted clutter and traffic during packet data transfer.
As a result, they help to significantly reduce packet data loss and this leads to lesser instances of hit-marker delays, stuttering and rubber-banding. So you’ll have fewer instances of Doom 4 high ping.
In Doom 4 high ping can be quite an annoyance. However, with the right steps, you can significantly bring your ping down. Make sure you connect to a good server though, since your choice of server is crucial in reducing high ping. This was our experienced insight on how you can reduce high ping in Doom 4.
