Did Rave Deserve a Spot over Team Malaysia in The International 5?

The international 5

The news of Valve’s selection of Team Malaysia for the final spot in the International 5 has caused quite a controversy. The matter went viral when EG.Aui_2000 tweeted a simple question on Team Malaysia being selected over Rave. Generally, Aui_2000 is pretty much silent on social media platforms, however, this tweet got further hype thanks to Reddit and the discussion went to a whole new level when casters and professional players started discussing it.

As observed throughout the community, most of the players and audience were in favor of Rave being selected over Team Malaysia. However, here are some stats

From what we understand, the selection was based on few factors and statistics that involved past win-and-loss records. And if that is indeed the criterion, then Team Malaysia’s performance justifies their selection. Team MY has gone the extra mile and proved its mettle in the South East Asian Dota 2 community. We feel that they have earned a spot in the finals based on the total number of events/matches won by a team. Also, Team Malaysia previously secured their LAN spot by beating Rave 2-0 straight in Red Bull Battleground SEA Qualifiers.

Probably, Valve’s criterion for team selection for the last spot was not roster consistency. Their selection has made a lot of sense from the statistics posted above. Team Malaysia had 82% consistency in most of the event performances and their win rate speaks for itself.
